Now let's get your wheels turning...it's all about STRATEGY!
You might want to read THIS before we get started for the week or print it.
As promised thanks to "Passion for Savings" HERE are free printable tabs to organize your coupons in your binder!
Coupon Policies:
Know you're store's Coupon Policy. Not all stores follow the corporate rules. Print it out and take it with you. The last thing you need at the daunting check-out line is an argument about procedure. Know the double policy. Some stores even have a policy on internet coupons.
These are some general coupon policies that apply to most stores.
- One coupon per item
If you have two items, you can use two coupons. If the coupon is $1 off of 2 items and you have two items, you can only use one coupon. - One store coupon + one manufacturer coupon Generally most stores will take one store coupon (a coupon put out by them) and one manufacturers coupon per item. This is a great way to stack up the savings quickly!
- Check expiration dates and small print Read, and follow, the small print. It’s mostly just boilerplate information and won’t make much of a difference in how you use the coupon. Check expiration dates – most stores don’t accept them if they are expired.
This is the #1 way to save you the most money. Keep an eye out at your favorite stores, most stores operate on sale cycles that occur every 6-10 weeks. So, no need to freak out if you miss the deal on free toothpaste...it WILL come back around. Knowing sale cycles can also help you gauge the number of items that you will need to stock up on. If you know that $1.00 for a box of your favorite cereal is a great deal you might need to get (6) coupons to get you through until the next sale. This "Strategy" is also going to start to put the biggest dent in you budget...you will be able to take cereal off of your grocery list for a while AND it was purchased at a rock bottom price. Finding sites and blogs that help you "match-up" coupons and sales is a great way to be in the know.
FORGET BRAND LOYALTY:
Only you can decide what brands you have to have and what you are willing to substitute if a great sale or coupon comes along. What may be the cheapest one week, may not be the next, so closely check prices.
Bigger is NOT always Better:
Buying the smaller item with a coupon in some cases can save you money. Try and look for the smallest size on the item and compare it to the Value/Family sized item.
Know your ROCK bottom price:
Begin to keep a list of you lowest purchase price on the items that you regularly buy. If you know that the $1.00 box of cereal is the lowest you have paid for it, then when a sale starts and cereal is $1.50 a box you know that you can wait. Unit pricing to compare items is a great way.
Below is unit pricing for many of the items at Costco (this may help you compare to the smaller grocery chains that don't offer "bulk" items).
FYI~
No coupons, no rebates – Costco doesn’t take manufacturer coupons on their products. You can use Costco coupons that they generally mail out every month or so. Also, a lot of times Costco purchases don’t qualify for rebates – such as on beer, meat, and toiletries. By buying it in the grocery store you can take advantage of both coupons and rebates.

**Sidenote: the FIRST SUNDAY of the month and Quarter will produce the best inserts. So this week is the week to buy extra papers or collect from friends/family.
- Since this is the first week of February we can expect some great coupons coming out. All of the online coupons have reset for the month. Here are a few tips when printing online coupons:
- Most online coupons have a print limit of 2. use your back button to print the coupon twice.
- Online coupons cannot be copied and always contain a watermark. I also reccommend printing coupons in color.
- Online coupons usually expire 30 days from the date they were printed.

So I ran out to return/rent a Redbox movie tonight, and stopped by my local Target to price check a few items, but I also purchased a few items for the sake of the blog...lol :)
Ok, doesn't look like a lot but this is what I purchased:1-box Wheat Thins (original price $2.99box)1-box Triscuits (original price $2.99 box)1-Huggies Supreme Travel Wipe (original price $1.27)2-Cans Scrubbing Bubbles (original price $2.50 per can)1-Vaseline for Men (original price $1.29)1-Acacia Wood Bowl (original price $14.99)
Total before Sale/coupons: $28.53
Total price PAID: $6.35Let's Break it down together: **So I had a great plan of buying some really great (almost free) frozen Grocery items, however my Target had lost power and their freezer section had NOTHING in the cases...lol. Guess I will check back.
After that quick trip (yes I was in the store 10 minutes). I was able to rent my Redbox movie. Here is a secret that I am willing to share (there are TONS of free Redbox rental codes online), Jason and I have been getting 2-3 movies a week for a few weeks now and have NOT PAID. So here is a gift from me to you for a free rental (only 1 per account):
N6TRWTV
Enjoy your free movie and Stay Warm! I know I WON'T be going out the rest of the week and we have a fun-filled weekend, so I look forward to checking back on Sunday once the new inserts are out for new coupon Match-ups!
~Also if you are headed out tomorrow 2/3/11 HERE is a free Firecracker Chicken entree from Panda Express...looks like my husband gets a free Lunch out!
Wheat Thins/Triscuits: I used a $1off of two Nabisco Crackers TARGET online coupon that I stacked with (2) 1$/1 off Manufacturer coupons from the Sunday inserts. Making the Wheat Thins and Triscuits $1.00 each.Huggies Wipes: I used a online coupon for $.75/1.This coupon did not state that it could be used on a "travel sized" item, so this is my example of getting a great deal on a smaller quantity item (I love these for my purse or the car!) This item UNIT PRICED at less than$0.04 cents a wipe, which if you took a look at the Unit Pricing sheet is a great value. Total Price: $.52 cents.Scrubbing Bubbles: I used (2) $2/1 online coupon that I found the other day (these high value coupons reached their "print limit" quickly, but I got 2), and Stacked them with (2) $.50 cent TARGET online coupons...making these items FREE.Vaseline: I used a $1/1 manufacturer coupon from the Sunday inserts...again, this item did not state that it could not be used on a travel size. Total Price $.29 cents.Wooden Bowl:ClearancedPriced to $3.54 in the Home goods section...keep your eye out at Target there were tons of Clearance finds down the aisles. (I honestly was in need of a new "fruit bowl." :)
